come in my car with me. it’s a nice lil volvo wagon thats real comfy for long trips. i’m leavin olympia on saturday morning the 23rd and will be driving to oakland down I-5! i would like to find people to split gas and driving! it should be about 50/person if we have 3 folks in the car.

if you are not originating or ending in olympia or oakland, that’s cool! like i can pick you up in portland and take you to redding or whatever. especially if you can drive. PLEASE BE ABLE TO DRIVE?

The city of Oakland being the police state that it is, is planning on closing 30 schools in the next 3 years. This is a clear attack on the working (and not) class Black and Brown communities of the city who have watched the Chart School Industrial complex rise in their city. For years public schools have been shut down in favor of charters that do not take on the kids within the neighborhood. These schools cater to wealthier Alameda county kids (who are mostly white). The school I work at (which is number 10 on the list of closures) had half of its campus given to a charter that plans on taking over within a year. THIS IS VIOLENCE! Other schools have been shut down to open up police training facilities. 

Oakland Parents and Teachers Are Sitting-in to Keep Neighborhood Schools Open!

We Need Your Support!!!

On June 15th, after the last day of school, Oakland parents and teachers will sit-in at Lakeview Elementary demanding that the district keep all neighborhood schools open. The district has not listened to lawsuits, pleas from parents and teachers, or protests. We know the money exists, but still they insist on closing flatland schools serving predominantly black and brown children. We say no more excuses! We’re keeping the schools open the last way left to us, by sitting-in. But we cannot do this alone. We need your support! Demand the district and the politicians give us full funding for quality education in neighborhood public schools. Join the fight for our kids’ futures!

Support the People’s School for Public Education:

1. Show up to support the sit-in at Lakeview Elementary – 746 Grand Avenue (across from the farmer’s market, at the Grand Ave 580 exit)
   • Friday 6/15 @ 1:00pm- Community Speakout & BBQ
   • Friday 6/15 @ 4:00pm- Rally to Kick-Off Sit-In
   • Saturday 6/16 @ 2:00pm - People’s School Solidarity Rally
   • Every Night starting Friday @ 9:00 – Solidarity Watch
